State wants production company to pay back film loan(en)

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - The New Mexico State Investment Council isn’t too happy with a production company behind a movie starring Jennifer Lopez.

The council has warned Mobius Entertainment/Bordertown Productions that it may have to pay back one of its state film investment loans sooner than expected because the company defaulted in March on $2.35 million borrowed for “Bordertown.”

A spokesman with the State Investment Council says the company’s second loan—more than $12 million—could be called in before its November 2008 due date.

The first loan wasn’t paid back due to a problem with the way the production company submitted receipts and other paperwork to the state Taxation and Revenue Department.

Such paperwork is required in securing the loan because its amount is based upon how much the production spends on taxes in the state.
